Sitting down to eat in a fast food restaurant and opening an oversized bun to reveal a tiny burger patty in the middle, Peller's gruff delivery of “Where’s the Beef?” was an instant sensation.

In 1974, it became the first Chinese restaurant in the United Kingdom to be awarded a Michelin Star. The restaurant was referenced in the lyrics of 1978 song "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon.
