Description: Famous Monsters of Filmland was launched in February 1958 as a one-time publication inspired by the massive success of the 1957 Shock Theater TV syndication of classic horror films. Created by publisher James Warren and editor Forrest J Ackerman, the magazine quickly became a cultural phenomenon, with its first issue selling out and requiring a second printing to meet demand. Its runaway popularity cemented its place in American pop culture and led to a wave of spinoff titles, including Spacemen, Favorite Westerns of Filmland, Screen Thrills Illustrated, Creepy, and Eerie. Description: Classic horror is often actually more melancholy than scary, and the audience has a tendency to sometimes end up relating to and feeling more for the "monster" as a victim than the people, and humankind is revealed to be in truth more of a monster. This trait in particular is the true art of classic horror and is rarely seen in modern films. In Creature from the Black Lagoon, this is the case when Gill-Man, an innocent piscine amphibious humanoid creature who was simply trying to live his life in peace, is attacked by frightened men ... a common tale ... especially metaphorically. As for the Price is Right nametag, that's just my little absurdist twist ... and a reminder that this monster's name is not "Creature."
Description: The Sandown Clown was a strange being encountered by two young children vacationing at Lake Common, Sandown, Isle of Wight (UK) in May of 1973. Following a sound like an ambulance siren, the children wandered across a footbridge over a stream, and met a curious, unidentifiable being that has been described as "a cross between a clown, a robot, and an alien". It was a shy, but friendly being, and spoke kindly to the children for almost half an hour before they returned to their parents. It seemingly vanished after the encounter, and has never been seen again.
Description: Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands. Loch Ness is best known for alleged sightings of the cryptozoological Loch Ness Monster, also known affectionately as "Nessie". It is connected at the southern end by the River Oich and a section of the Caledonian Canal to Loch Oich. At the northern end there is the Bona Narrows which opens out into Loch Dochfour, which feeds the River Ness and a further section of canal to Inverness, ultimately leading to the North Sea via the Moray Firth. It is one of a series of interconnected, murky bodies of water in Scotland; its water visibility is exceptionally low due to a high peat content in the surrounding soil.
