Description: Three fighter squadrons of the 49th ACfighter group, the 8th Fighter Squadron's story began on January 16, 1941 when the 49th Pursuit Group was activated at Selfridge Field, Michigan. The 9th and its sister squadrons (7th and 8th) compiled distinguished history that included extensive participation in World War II with a record of 668 aerial victories.
Description: The 415th Night Fighter Squadron was formed in February 1943, and it carried out missions in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations, and then in Northwestern Europe during World War II. It was inactivated in 1947, with its personnel and aircraft being transferred to another squadron.
Description: Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the squadron conducted routine training missions however the outbreak of the 1990–91 Gulf War put the F-15s of Bitburg into the heart of the conflict. The squadron's pilots and aircraft engaged in combat operations during Operation Desert Storm. Not a single F-15 aircraft was lost in combat during the war. In June 1991, the deployed squadron returned to Bitburg.

Description: The 419th Night Fighter Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. Its last assignment was with Thirteenth Air Force.The unit was formed in 1943. After training, it was deployed to Thirteenth Air Force and ordered to New Guinea to provide air defense interceptor protection against Japanese night air raids on USAAF airfields. It later served in the Philippines Campaign where in addition to night interceptor missions it also flew day and night interdiction missions against enemy troop movements, brides and other targets of opportunity.

Arriving at Chaumont-Semoutiers Air Base, France 1963, the 480th TFS was reassigned to Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico.
