Description: World War 2 - La Pointe du Hoc is a 100-foot cliff promontory located about 4 miles west of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. On the 6th of June 1944, the U.S. Army's 2nd Ranger Battalion, scaled these sheer cliffs using ropes and grappling hooks to destroy a German artillery battery. The site sat between Omaha and Utah beaches, meaning the heavy German guns stationed there could fire down on Allied troops and ships during the invasion.
