Before it was the Hurricane, the space was the also-awesomely-divey, also-24-hours the Dog House for approximately a grazillion years—and before that, it was another 24-hour place called the Bohemian Continental, which moved into the building in the 1920s, meaning almost 100 years of 24-hour service on the site.

Without question, The Hurricane Cafe was Seattle's quintessential greasy spoon and the combination of always being open and the great Belltown location meant it was where everyone seemed to wind up after taking in a show. Opened in 1994 by the people that owned Beths Café on Aurora, they wanted a new spot that could be another Beth's, yet closer to the city. As far as all-night diner's go, you couldn't beat The Hurricane Cafe. Breakfast anytime with huge omelets and bottomless hashbrowns as well as killer shakes, burgers, fries, and nachos. Oh, and they also had a full bar serving up some pretty mean drinks as well. It was probably best described as a comfortable dive bar that opened up a diner and made it awesome.

The Century 21 Exposition (also known as the Seattle World's Fair), was a world's fair held April 21, 1962, to October 21, 1962, in Seattle, Washington. Nearly 10 million people attended the fair and unlike some other world's fairs of the era, Century 21 made a profit. As planned, the exposition left behind a fairground and numerous public buildings and public works; some credit it with revitalizing Seattle's economic and cultural life. The fair saw the construction of the iconic Space Needle and well-known monorail, as well as several sports venues and performing arts buildings that make up what is now known simply as Seattle Center.

The Seattle Totems were a professional ice hockey franchise in Seattle, Washington. Under several names prior to 1958, the franchise was a member of the Pacific Coast Hockey League (renamed the Western Hockey League in 1952) between 1944 and 1974. In their last season of existence, the Totems played in the Central Hockey League in the 1974–75 season.

The OK Hotel was a cafe, bar, and music venue located under the viaduct in Seattle's Pioneer Square district. Founded in 1988, the club came to an end with the Nisqually earthquake of February 28, 2001, which damaged numerous buildings in the historic district. Most widely recognized outside of Seattle as a prominent location in the movie Singles (1992), the OK Hotel was one of numerous active Seattle rock venues during the celebrated local scene of the late eighties.

The peanut butter brand known as Sunny Jim was manufactured in Seattle, Washington by Germanus Wilhelm Firnstahl in 1921 after he moved to Seattle from Wisconsin and bought a peanut roaster. Firnstahl based the apple-cheeked character seen on the jars on his son, Lowell. By the 1950s, the brand accounted for nearly a third of all peanut butter sold in the Puget Sound area. The company was sold in 1979, though the large sign remained on the Airport Way South factory for decades after the peanut butter was no longer in production, resulting in the "Sunny Jim building" becoming a well-known landmark. In 1997, there was a fire at this plant (then owned by the city of Seattle) which destroyed the sign and a portion of the building.

The Seattle SuperSonics, commonly known as the Sonics, were a professional basketball team based in Seattle, Washington. The SuperSonics played in the National Basketball Association as a member club of the league's Western Conference Pacific and Northwest divisions from 1967 until 2008. The SuperSonics won the championship in 1979 and overall, the franchise won three Western Conference titles: 1978, 1979, and 1996. The franchise also won six divisional titles, their last being in 2005, with five in the Pacific Division and one in the Northwest Division. After the 2007–08 season ended, the team relocated to Oklahoma to play under a new name.

Who said print is dead? Ok, well maybe it's a little closer to death now that the sun has set on yet another Seattle icon. You could read all about it at this old school Pike Place Market newsstand as they regularly stocked everything from Jazz Times, Surfer Journal, Cigar Aficionado, and Spanish tattoo mags, to Italian gossip tabloids, Russian comics and the ever popular Buddhist Times. First & Pike used to carry 180 different newspapers and over 2,000 magazines, but as things went increasingly digital, those numbers began to dwindle after a solid 40-year run, First & Pike News said their goodbyes just before New Years in 2019.

the Dog House, a Seattle restaurant/bar located at 7th Avenue and Bell Street (at 2230 7th Avenue). Run by Laurie Gulbransen (1913-2000) for most of 60 years, it closed in on January 31, 1994. The Dog House was an epoch of Seattle history, a virtually non-stop, open-24-hours run of food, booze, music and fellowship The Dog House was a great place where truly people of all types and ages went. Their famous sign was true -- all roads did lead to the Dog House. In some ways I think it is possible to date the death of old Seattle to when the Dog House closed. After 1993 is when the high tech, hip Seattle, the darling of the national press city really took off.

Ah, where to begin on this greatly-missed, legendary ‘90s #Belltown joint on 4th Ave…It was a laundromat/music club/art gallery/bar/café/diner – where folks could wash their dirty draws, see a punk show, play arcade and board games, and eat a big ass slice of $2 pizza - often all at once. The Sit & Spin embodied the spirit of so many old “only in Seattle” establishments, and was a favorite hangout for neighborhood locals, musicians, artists, students, street folks, whoever.
