Description: "Lediggang er roten til alt ondt" or "Vacancy is the root of all evil" is a 1898 illustration by Norwegian artist, Theodor Kittelsen (1857-1914). This odd illustration shows a root vegetable (presumably a carrot) smoking a cigarette, heedlessly sauntering through some ants as they are constructing something. Theodor Severin Kittelsen is one of the most popular artists in Norway and is well-known for his nature paintings, as well as for his illustrations of fairy tales and legends, especially of trolls.
