Description: In the town of Ennis, Alaska, the eight men working at the Tsalal Research Station all disappear, with only a woman's severed tongue left behind at the scene. Chief Liz Danvers deduces that the tongue belonged to an Indigenous woman. Trooper Evangeline Navarro believes the victim to be Anne Kowtok, an Iñupiat woman who was stabbed to death with her tongue cut out after protesting the construction of a local mine; the case remains unsolved after six years, which Navarro blames on Danvers. Danvers soon uncovers a possible connection between Anne and a parka worn by one of the researchers in a photograph, and returns to Tsalal, where she finds Navarro also inspecting the facility.
