Description: 1846 Donner Party Tragedy - 87 pioneers moved west to settle in the California Territory. In their attempt to cross the treacherous Sierra Nevada Mountains, they became snowbound and trapped in the mountains. Supplies dwindled, people died of exposure, and in a couple cases murder. Soon their food supplies were gone, they began eating shoe leather, Ox hide, and livestock bones. Soon that was gone, then came the grisly decision to eat their dead.
