Swans Filth Bags
Description: Released in 1983, Filth is the debut studio album by New York City experimental rock band Swans and one of the most punishing records to emerge from the early '80s underground music scene. The band took the abrasive sounds of New York's no wave movement to terrifying new extremes, combining grinding guitars, pounding dual drummers, distorted bass, and relentlessly repetitive rhythms into a suffocating wall of noise. Tracks like "Stay Here," "Big Strong Boss," and "Power for Power" explore themes of violence, domination, and human degradation, with guttural vocals adding to the album's oppressive atmosphere. Released through an independent label, Filth received little mainstream attention at the time but has since become a landmark record.
