Description: Storied racing engine builders Jim Travers and Frank Coon joined forces to found TRACO Engineering in Culver City, California in 1957. The name was a portmanteau of the two men's last names (TRAvers & COon), and when the two combined, they ended up building some of the most successful road racing engines in American history. TRACO built race engines for many segments of motorsports including midgets, Indy, Can Am, Trans Am, and even built powerplants to spec for the big boys in Detroit. TRACO Engineering continued doing their thing throughout the '90s, but ultimately closed up shop in 1999.
