The startup sound played, the colorful desktop appeared, and you were ready to explore the net—or open random folders you would never use again. The green Start button seemed to run the entire operation, while desktop icons multiplied for absolutely no reason. If the computer froze, you simply stared at the screen and hoped for the best. Add a chunky monitor, your favorite wallpaper, a suspicious number of downloaded files, and a computer fan working overtime, and you had everything needed for a perfect afternoon. Somehow, even waiting for a webpage to load felt like part of the experience. Wouldn't it be nice to turn back time?
