Description: The surname Roche is derived from the Old French word "roche," meaning "rock." It is a topographic surname given to individuals who lived near rocky areas or notable rock formations. The Gaelic form of the surname is de Róiste. The Roche family is believed to have first settled in Ireland during the Anglo-Norman invasion in the late 12th century, particularly around 1172 when they were granted lands in County Limerick.
