Heraldry is fascinating, and the go-to book, published in 1909 – now out of copyright – is A Complete Guide to Heraldry, by Arthur Charles Fox-Davies. The Vac strongly suggests that you find this book online as it’s available for free, and goes into lovely detail. The pieces here are derived from that book by means of vector conversion from extant source, editing to transparent .png files, and finally re-conversion in some cases.
The original drawings – printed in the book – were of low enough size and quality that the Vac opted to go for an impressionist approach rather than one with more grain. For these simpler drawings, this worked well indeed, though some of the more complex ones are more hinted at than fully executed.
The Vac hopes you enjoy these rebuilds, a labor of love and entirely too much time in front of the computer.
Please note that some images are of their period, and thus not currently politically correct.
