The F-101B was a fighter used by the United States Air Force during the 50's and 60's as a long-range interceptor. The last "Voodoo" was retired from service during the 1980's. Build by the McDonnell Aircraft Company, in St. Louis, Missouri, the aircraft carried nuclear-tipped missiles or rockets and could climb as fast as 36,500 feet per minute. Crews flying the "Voodoo" set numerous records, including a transcontinental speed record in which it flew coast-to-coast (Los Angeles to New York, and back) in six hours and 46 minutes. The "A" model set an absolute speed record of 1,207.6 MPH and, due to its speed, pilots nicknamed the plane the "One-O-Wonder".
