Ddt Cards
Description: In professional wrestling a DDT is any move in which the wrestler has the opponent in a front facelock/inverted headlock, and falls down or backwards to drive the opponent's head into the mat. The classic DDT is performed by putting the opponent in a front facelock and falling backwards so that the opponent is forced to dive forward onto his or her head. Although widely credited as an invention of Jake Roberts, who gave the DDT its famous name, the earliest known practitioner of the move was Mexican wrestler Black Gordman, who frequently performed it during the 1970s.
Description: Damien’s Dinner Time, Death Drop Technique, whatever you call it- it’s devastatingly dangerous. D is for DDT! Part of my series, The ABC's of Pro Wrestling, these illustrations are an homage to the crazy entertainment sport that is professional wrestling. They are informed visually by mid century underground 60's comics, hot rod illustration art and vintage t-shirt graphics. They are informed ideologically, by the ten-year-old wrestling junkie that lives in the basement of my mind.

Description: First synthesized in 1874 by the Austrian chemist Othmar Zeidler, DDT was developed as an insecticide. In 1945, DDT was made available for sale in the United States, and although it was promoted for use as an agricultural and household pesticide, there were also concerns about its use from the beginning. As a result, marketing campaigns to counter the concerns were launched, including "DDT Is Good For Me-e-e!" from Pennsalt Chemicals, which included print ads and radio spots with a cast of characters singing about how wonderful DDT was. The EPA began regulatory actions in the late '50s and '60s to prohibit many of DDT's uses because of mounting evidence of environmental and toxicological effects, leading to a ban in 1972.
