Description: Fields like UAP studies and anomalistics demand an unusual kind of intellectual discipline—almost a monastic one. The researcher isn’t just contending with difficult data, but with powerful psychological and social temptations: belief, meaning, attention, and recognition. When working near what George Hansen, author of Trickster and the Paranormal, calls the “enchanted boundary,” guarding against premature certainty, narrative momentum, and the lure of visibility becomes part of the scientific task itself. In these domains especially, restraint, patience, and a willingness to let claims die quietly if the data demands it aren’t weaknesses...they’re prerequisites. Beware the Enchanted Boundary!
