Midnight Radio Cards
Description: Dave Clark was a radio announcer at UMAX but he decided to become a nocturnal crime-fighter, Midnight. His identity was based on a radio character who he voiced at the station when the actor was ill. His assistants included Gabby, a talking monkey, and Doc Wackey, reformed criminal/mad scientist. Later he was aided by Sniffer Snoop, an inept private detective. Midnight had no superpowers, but he was a skilled boxer. He carried several weapons and gadgets including a gun loaded with sleep-darts and a two-way wrist radio. He also carried a vacuum gun which fired a suction cup attached to a line of strong silk.
Description: Captain Midnight was an adventure franchise first broadcast as a radio serial from 1938 to 1949. The character's popularity throughout the 1940s and into the mid-1950s extended to serial films (1942), a syndicated newspaper strip (1942-late 1940s), a comic book (1942–1948), and a television show (1954–1956). The Captain Midnight TV series, starring Richard Webb, began in 1954 on CBS, continuing for 39 episodes until January 21, 1956. Viewers could send away for a special decoder device and membership kit by including the inner wax seal from a jar of Ovaltine to "Capt. Midnight, Box P, Chicago 77, Illinois".
