Description: T&H Van Works Unlimited got their start in the early '70s, riding the wave of custom van fever and offering a huge selection of custom parts from porthole windows and sunroofs to side pipes and flare kits. From their Los Angeles, California showroom, they also operated a thriving mail order business, with ads in all the major vanner magazines instructing people to write them for a free catalog. In the early '80s, custom vans had died down considerably, and T&H expanded their offerings to support the booming mini truck craze, but by some time in the '90s as mini trucks began falling out of favor, T&H called it quits.

Description: The 720 pickup was Datsun's first foray into the 4-wheel drive mini-truck market in both long bed and extra-cab variants. It was introduced as a 1980 model and continued until 1986 when the Hardbody style (model D-21) was introduced as a 1986.5 model. Prior models of Datsun mini-trucks were the 521 and 620 which did not offer a 4-wheel drive option. The 720 featured an independent front suspension with torsion bar springs, a leaf spring live axle rear suspension, and a 4 cylinder engine displacing 2.0 liters at introduction, later enlarged to 2.4 liters. The manual transmission on the 720 drove a divorced transfer case that required extra clearance over a married setup. This resulted in the 720 4x4 models having a lifted look.

Description: Datsun trucks surged in popularity in America during the 1970s as buyers discovered that a pickup didn’t have to be big, thirsty, or expensive to be useful. While Detroit’s full-size trucks still dominated the market, compact Datsun pickups such as the 521 and later 620 offered dependable four-cylinder power, good fuel economy, easy maneuverability, and a price that appealed to younger drivers and budget-conscious buyers. Their popularity received another boost during the decade’s fuel crises, when efficiency became a major selling point. Datsun also helped turn the compact pickup into something more than a work vehicle, as owners customized their trucks with wheels, graphics, camper shells, lowered suspensions, and other accessories.

Description: In 1974, then-publisher of Street Rodder and Street Chopper magazines, Tom McMullen, saw a growing trend in custom vans and pickups cruising Southern California and making the scene at hot rod shows. Using the popular saying "Keep on Truckin'" as a basis, Truckin’ magazine was created. In 1975, the first issue went on sale at newsstands for $1.00 under the TRM Publications (which stood for Tom and Rose McMullen) family of auto magazines. From 1975 to May 1995, Truckin’ was published by TRM before being sold off to a larger media group after Tom and his wife died when their Rockwell Commander 112 crashed into a field in Oklahoma. The title changed hands a few more times over the years before going digital and finally ceasing in 2019.
Description: Downey got their start back in 1970 when a dealer parts manager and J40 enthusiast named Jim began selling aftermarket off-road accessories and performance goodies out of the parts department at the Downey dealership. In 1975, his association with the dealership ended and Jim bought the accessory business. Calling it Downey Off Road Manufacturing, Jim was now not just stocking aftermarket parts, but designing and manufacturing his own. From suspension systems and rock armor, to engine swap adapters and exhaust systems, they had it all and their catalog became the wish book for enthusiasts everywhere. When their 4WD pickup models came to the states, Downey Off Road Manufacturing grew exponentially as these import trucks took off.
