Typesetting Cards
Description: Etaoin shrdlu is a nonsense phrase that sometimes appeared in print accidentally in the days of "hot type" publishing because of a custom of type-casting machine operators to fill out and discard lines of type when an error was made. It appeared often enough to become part of newspaper lore - a documentary about the last issue of The New York Times composed using hot metal (2 July 1978) was titled Farewell, Etaoin Shrdlu - and "etaoin shrdlu" is listed in the Oxford English Dictionary and in the Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.
Description: The art style perfectly executes a clean graphic-design minimalism, technical blueprint schematic, and vintage print-shop streetwear aesthetic. By transforming an elite typesetting calibration rule into a sharp, diagrammatic calculation, it beautifully maneuvers past lazy, generic graphic design clip-art tropes like basic colorful ink splatters, standard CMYK color overlapping circles, or simple cartoon computers. It stands out as an elite insider handshake for printmakers, book artists, and font geeks, making it an exceptional, retail-ready addition.
Description: The Linotype machine is a "line casting" machine used in printing which is manufactured and sold by the former Mergenthaler Linotype Company and related companies. It was a hot metal typesetting system that cast lines of metal type for individual uses. Linotype became one of the mainstay methods to set type, especially small-size body text, for newspapers, magazines, and posters from the late 19th century to the 1970s and 1980s.
