Weimar Cards
Description: Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang and written by Thea von Harbou in collaboration with Lang from von Harbou's 1925 novel of the same name. Intentionally written as a treatment, it stars Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, and Brigitte Helm. Erich Pommer produced it in the Babelsberg Studios for Universum Film A.G. (UFA). The silent film is regarded as a pioneering science-fiction movie, being among the first feature-length movies of that genre. Filming took place over 17 months in 1925–26 at a cost of more than five million Reichsmarks, or the equivalent of about €21 million.

Description: Bread Costs a Bag of Cash Now: The Hyperinflation Hustle Tears of Inflation by Puff Sumo. A scowling man in a teal suit marches grimly down the street, hauling a swollen sack so stuffed with banknotes that paper spills out the top. It's the hyperinflation image from the history books, a bag of cash to buy a loaf of bread, updated for every grocery run, gas fill-up, and rent payment today. Speckled retro editorial illustration in teal, cream, and black ink with a mid-century newspaper-cartoon feel. Dry, defiant humor for anyone whose money buys less every month, history buffs fascinated by Weimar-era economics, and the perpetually over-budget. A walking punchline for the price spiral.

Description: Between the first and second world wars, the German Weimar government decided it could repay its war debts by printing money. This devalued the currency immensely and resulted in hyperinflation, leading to the release of billion and trillion mark notes.
