Zapatista Cards
Description: More than a guerrilla, Subcomandante Marcos became the poetic heart of the Zapatista movement — an insurgent who challenged injustice not only with arms, but with words. From deep within the Lacandon jungle, he crafted communiqués that blended myth, irony, and critique, inspiring resistance far beyond Chiapas. His writings questioned global capitalism, redefined political identity, and gave new meaning to revolution itself. This version celebrates the thinker beneath the mask — a voice that continues to echo in movements for freedom, dignity, and the radical imagination.
Description: Subcomandante Marcos, revolutionary leader of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation in Chiapas, Mexico, became an international icon of resistance against capitalism, colonialism, and state violence. His writings fused poetry with sharp political critique, speaking on behalf of indigenous communities long silenced by history. As a masked figure of rebellion, Marcos called for class consciousness, grassroots power, and the dismantling of neoliberal systems. His legacy lives on in movements that seek justice, autonomy, and dignity for the oppressed. This tribute honors his role as both insurgent and philosopher — a man who turned words into weapons.
Description: "As to whether Marcos is gay: Marcos is gay in San Francisco, black in South Africa, an Asian in Europe, a Chicano in San Ysidro, an anarchist in Spain, a Palestinian in Israel, a Mayan Indian in the streets of San Cristobal, a Jew in Germany, a Gypsy in Poland, a Mohawk in Quebec, a pacifist in Bosnia, a single woman on the Metro at 10pm, a peasant without land, a gang member in the slums, an unemployed worker, an unhappy student and, of course, a Zapatista in the mountains." - Subcomandante Marcos of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation ¡Ya Basta!
