Description: Rendered on a deep dark background, this artwork presents three columns of gears from Babbage's Difference Engine, holding the values of n² + n + 41 and their first and second differences, with the crank on the side. Charles Babbage designed the Difference Engine in 1822 to compute mathematical tables mechanically using the method of finite differences. His later Analytical Engine anticipated the modern computer. Made for developers, computer scientists and anyone who speaks the language of machines, it suits a home office, dev desk or study.
