There are times when Hakeem is bullied a lot and made fun of. That is where his mother Merlen looks into his eyes and lets him know that he is smart, he is special, he is wonderful, and he is just fine just the way he is. She reminds him that he is loved, very very much.

Today's social climate shifts almost daily. Depending on where you live, what you do, who you associate with, and those you simply casually pass by, social acceptance on ANY level seems unsure. People of color in particular have been aware of the ever-changing environment in which they exist. Always. Whether accepted or shunned, self-esteem and independence are paramount to daily living. Children in particular need reinforcement on so many levels. Maybe this message can reinforce that idea.

Our planet is so small. But there are so many people on it, good and not so good, all people are very different. And there are still many children on this planet. We must always remember this!
