Half timbered cottages in the village of Checkendon Oxfordshire. This village lies At the start of the Chiltern Hills as they rise on the north side of the River Thames. Many of the houses here are wooden framed with brick infill. These cottages line the road through Checkendon as it winds its way from Woodcote to Stoke Row. At the bottom of the garden in a country cottage we find a brick and tile construction which at one time housed the one and only toilet. This would have been an earth closet. Now most, like the one here provide storage for garden tools. Can you imagine having to make a visit in wet or very cold weather? And a bit cobweb-y and spidery in there to say the least! This image was captured when the foxgloves were just finishing flowering - still very fertile soil round here after all this time!

Today it houses the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Superior Court of Justice and is the headquarters for the Law Society of Upper Canada. The building was designated an Ontario Heritage Property in 1990 and a National Historic Site of Canada in 1979. The elaborate entrance to the British Colonial Building at No 49 Yonge St in Toronto Canada. The first branch of The Bank of British North America in Toronto was built in 1845 at the northeast corner of Yonge and Wellington Sts. The current building, designed by architect Henry Langley, replaced the original in 1875. The main entrance to the building was initially on Wellington Street, but in the early 1900's as Yonge Street emerged as the city’s main thoroughfare, the doorway was relocated to it's present location in 1903. No 8-10 Adelaide St E in Toronto Ontario was built in 1909 for the Canadian Birkbeck Investment and Savings Company. The site remained the property of Birkbeck and its successor, the Canadian Mortgage and Investment Company, until 1927 when it was sold to the Standard Bank. Ownership of the structure was passed to several corporations and individuals before the Ontario Heritage Trust purchased it in 1985. The building was designated a Heritage Property by The City of Toronto in 1976 and a National Historic Site of Canada in 1986. It's most prominent features are the two storey arched bay windows and the center parapet which reads 'Joseph White Erected A.D. 1893'. Constructed in 1931, one of the original 'Cathedrals Of Hockey' at No 60 Carlton Street was home to the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1931 to 1999 (and to Elvis Presley in 1957, to The Beatles in 1964, 1965, and 1966, to Muhammad Ali and George Chuvalo in 1966, to The Summit Series in 1972 and to numerous other concerts, shows and events over 68 years).
