Did you know: The Black Pearl, originally Wicked Wench, is a fictional ship in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. In the screenplay, the Black Pearl is easily recognized by her distinctive black hull and sails. The ship was originally named Wicked Wench before she was ordered burned and sunk by Lord Beckett. A corner of Brick Lane, and a flood of memories, of times, decades ago. The intoxicating smell of food, of spices, grease and coriander, curry and turmeric, of baking and coffee, hanging in the summer night. Sunday mornings of bright light and London heat, the heat that is absorbed into the Victorian bricks and that releases the oils from the tarmac of the road. Days of innocent pleasure, made golden by morning light, antiques and plants, cakes, pastries and designer coffee.
