Northumberland Park in North Shields was opened in 1885 and still has many of the old Victorian characteristics including a medieval herb garden, a band stand and a butterfly meadow. This image was shot on a cold April morning and shows the duck pond and a small cherry tree in blossom.

A December daybreak near the mouth of the River Blyth as it flows into the North Sea on the North East coast of England. The east and west piers protecting the Port of Blyth stretch out towards the horizon under a cloudy sky. This image has been given a dramatic black and white filter.

December morning on the beach at Blyth in Northumberland just after sunrise with a very strong wind enabling spray off the tops of the waves as they crash onto the sand. The light from the newly risen sun seems to illuminate the spray against the silhouetted piers and lighthouse guarding the entrance to the Port of Blyth.

Once home to the kings of ancient Northumbria, Bamburgh Castle is one of Northumberland's most iconic buildings. The Bamburgh castle we see today is a relatively recent structure, built by famed industrialist the first Lord Armstrong at vast cost in late Victorian times. Lord Armstrong was also responsible for building Cragside House, Gardens & Estates. But the castle boasts a much longer history. There have been settlements on the site since prehistoric times and the regular archaeological digs that take place on the site have unearthed some spectacular finds.

The sun was trying very hard to break through over the beach at Seaton Sluice in Northumberland on a very cold December morning. The cloudy sky was reflected in the wet sand with the odd place where the sun had managed to break through the cloud was lit up nicely.

Cambois is a small community almost cut off from the rest of the county by the River Blyth on one side and the North Sea on the other. It boasts a lovely quiet beach which is much loved by fishermen and dog walkers alike. This image was taken on a February morning looking south towards the storage silos and the wind turbine on the bank of the river.

St Mary's Lighthouse and island lie north of the River Tyne and Whitley Bay on the North Sea coast of England. The lighthouse is no longer in operation and is now a museum and tourist attraction which is only accessible at low tide when the causeway is not under water. The image was taken on a cold, clear December morning just after sunrise with a golden sky reflecting on the still, calm North Sea. Not a bad start to a winter's day!

Lindisfarne Castle Holy Island, Northumberland, UK Lindisfarne Castle is a 16th-century castle located on Holy Island, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, much altered by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901. There are two piers at the mouth of the River Blyth in Northumberland. The Cambois Pier is a mile long and has a working lighthouse at the end, the old wooden pier used to have a lighthouse but this was demolished some time ago. The image has been converted to black and white to emphasise the lovely cloud formations.
