Mercury, corresponding to Hermes in Greek mythology, was the son of Jupiter and Bona Dea. He was the god of travelers, thieves, commerce and medicine, as well as the personification of intelligence and speed. The god Mercury was in charge of carrying messages from one god to another. He was responsible for strokes of luck and sudden changes in life, but he was also the patron of thieves, rogues and cheats. As soon as he was born, he ran away from the cradle and stole 50 heifers from his brother Apollo.

Much like her Greek counterpart in Artemis, Diana was the Roman Goddess of wild animals, the hunt, young girls, and childbirth. Unlike Artemis, however, Diana was also a moon Goddess, connected with Luna in the same vein as her brother, Apollo, and his later connection to the sun. This is a classical rendition of 'Diana the Huntress', originally sculpted by Guillaume Coustou (1716-1777).

Minerva is her Roman counterpart. She was was a companion to many of the great heroes in Greek legend. She was also the patroness and protector of Athens. A perpetual virgin, she never married. In the design, she’s encircled by the Stoic virtues.

My take on the green goddess Artemis, also known as Diana in roman pantheon.

The candidate and his aged initiator are here shown standing on the brink of a chasm dividing the world of the living from that of the dead and through which stream the shades of the departed. On the farther side of the chasm Hades, the god of the underworld, sits on his golden throne surrounded by the emblems of death and attended by Cerberus, the three-headed dog, guardian of the gates of death. Above the yawning cleft hovers the figure of Ceres, carrying the two torches which lights her way through the gloom of the nether world. She pleads for the liberation of her daughter Persephone, whom Hades has abducted and would force to become his queen.
