This is an image, originally taken on film in 1980, of a train nearing the summit of the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The railway started operations in 1896 with a service from Llanberis to the top of Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. As an aside, there was a fatal accident on the first day of operations following a derailment as the train was too heavily laden. Extraordinarily, four of the original eight steam locomotives are still in operation (with another undergoing an overhaul), although diesel locomotives—much cheaper to run—are now making their way up the mountain, but none of the diesel locomotives were yet in service when this image was captured. Hampden Bridge is a suspension bridge across the Kangaroo River, located in the town of Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales, Australia. It is named after Lord Hampden, Governor of New South Wales from 1895 to 1899. Hampton Bridge was designed by Ernest Macartney de Burgh, the colony's Assistant Engineer for Bridges, to replace the decaying timber truss bridge which originally spanned the Kangaroo River. Construction began in 1895 and the bridge was opened on the 19 May 1898, just six days before floods washed the old bridge away. The popular Wattamolla in the Royal National Park is pretty busy in summer, but even in winter it has plenty of admirers. This tiny waterfall creates a great effect as it falls into the deep pool below. Despite the strong breeze, I managed to get this shot without too much movement in the framing vegetation. The closer shots had lots of blurry vegetation. The Ice Age Is Coming Number of views as of 26th February 2018 = 1160. Six inches of snow on the ground and icicles covering every twig and branch on the Blorenge, between Abergavenny and Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales. At 480 metres, the Blorenge is far from being the highest mountain in Wales but it dominates the local landscape south of Abergavenny. Meanwhile the afternoon sun illuminates the face of another nearby mountain, the 596 metres Sugar Loaf (top centre). Date: 1st January 2010. I love the blues so much I'm not sure why I didn't put this up last year. Vivid Sydney 2011 kicked off on May 27, 2011 with a fascinating & colourful display of moving lights over the sails of the Opera House. Art supplied by French collective Superbien, 2011's display was more dynamic & entertaining than the slowly changing displays from the past 2 years though a bit harder to photograph due to the mobile nature of the works. *Feature* Addicted Photographer, May 2012.
