Taken at the Everglades Gardens at Leura in the Blue Mountains of Australia. These birds love the cooler climates which is why I had never seen them before. Their name apparently comes from the "creaking gate" sound they make. This one was so engrossed in eating that I was able to get within a metre without disturbing it. The strong beak was making short work of the seeds on this tree & the ground was littered with half eaten seeds. Slight HDR processing with Photomatix. *Feature* Australian Native Birds, Aug 2010.
