The lead character, FBI Agent Dale Cooper, is a resident of the hotel for the length of the original series. The exterior of The Great Northern Hotel is the Salish Lodge in Snoqualmie, WA. (In 1988, the building was completely remodeled and reopened as the Salish Lodge. The lodge that inspired The Great Northern Hotel is the Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo, Washington. The Kiana Lodge was built in the late 1920s and is furnished with alder bentwood pieces dating from that era.
