The Seattle Pilots were an American professional baseball team based in Seattle, Washington from 1969 to 1970. On April 1, 1970, they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and became the Brewers.

The Anaheim Amigos were a charter member American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in Southern California. After their first season in Anaheim, the team moved to Los Angeles to become the Los Angeles Stars. In 1970, it moved to Salt Lake City and became the Utah Stars. The Amigos were the first professional team in any sport to bill themselves as representing the city of Anaheim, California.

The Portland Mavericks were an independent professional baseball team based in Portland, Oregon. They began play in the short-season Class A Northwest League in 1973, after the Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League left after the 1972 season and became the Spokane Indians. The Mavericks operated as an independent club in Portland for five seasons, until the return of the PCL in 1978, and played home games on artificial turf at Civic Stadium in Portland.

The Mavericks operated as an independent club in Portland from 1973 to 1977.

The San Francisco Fog was a Major Indoor Soccer League franchise which existed for only one season, 1980–1981. The Fog, which played their home games at the Cow Palace, finished their single season of existence at 11–29.

The Oakland Invaders were a professional American football team that played in the United States Football League (USFL) from 1983 through 1985.

The Los Angeles Sharks were an ice hockey team that played in the World Hockey Association from 1972 to 1974. Their primary home arena was the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena but they sometimes played at the Long Beach Sports Arena when the Sports Arena had other contractual obligations. After the 1973–74 season, the franchise moved to Detroit to become the Michigan Stags and again mid-season to Baltimore to become the Baltimore Blades.

The Ventura County Gulls were a minor league baseball team in Ventura, California in 1986. They were a high-A class team that played in the California League, and were a farm team of the Toronto Blue Jays for the franchise’s only year as the Gulls. They played all of their home games at the baseball field at Ventura College. In spite of the fact that the Gulls’ roster featured 14 future major league baseball players in their lone year, Ventura County did not make the playoffs; instead, they lost a tiebreaker to the Visalia Oaks.

The Sacramento Solons were a minor league baseball team based in Sacramento, California. They played in the Pacific Coast League during several periods (1903, 1905, 1909–1914, 1918–1960, 1974–1976). The team derived its name from Sacramento's status as capital of California. Solon was an early Greek lawmaker and the term "solons" was often used by journalists as a synonym for "senators."

The Oakland Stompers were a soccer team in the North American Soccer League (NASL) which played the 1978 season in the NASL. The Stompers played in the Western Division of the American Conference and finished the year with a 12-18 record. At the end of the 1977 NASL season, the Connecticut Bicentennials relocated to Oakland where the team renamed itself as the Stompers. While in Oakland, the team's home field was Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum. At the end of the 1978 season, the team was sold and moved to Edmonton, Alberta where the team was renamed the Edmonton Drillers.

The San Francisco Golden Gaters were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The Golden Gaters won two Western Division Championships and lost in the WTT Finals both times. The team was founded in 1973 and made the playoffs in each of the five seasons in which it participated in the league. Following the 1978 season, eight of the then 10 WTT franchises folded leaving only the Golden Gaters and the Phoenix Racquets prepared to participate in the 1979 season. WTT suspended operations of the league in March 1979, ending the Golden Gaters existence.

The Salinas Spurs were a California League team that played from 1982 to 1987 and again from 1989 to 1992. Located in Salinas, California, they were affiliated with the Chicago Cubs from 1982 to 1983, the Seattle Mariners from 1984 to 1987, and in 1989 they had a partial working agreement with the San Francisco Giants.

The Anaheim Aces were a charter member of baseball's California League, founded in 1941 as a Class "C" minor league. The remaining charter teams were the Bakersfield Badgers, Fresno Cardinals, Merced Bears, Riverside Reds, San Bernardino Stars, Santa Barbara Saints, and Stockton Fliers. The Aces folded after the 1941 season, with America's entry into World War II.
