Simpson Forceps are used when a baby’s head elongates and molds to the birth canal becoming stuck. Simpson forceps have a LONGER CEPHALIC CURVE. Unlike Elliot forceps, Simpson Forceps’ shanks do not overlap.

Kielland Forceps are most commonly used for rotation in cases where the baby’s head is not aligned with the birth canal. They have a SLIDING MECHANISM that allows the two blades to slide in line with each other adjusting the rotation from any position.

Elliot Forceps are most often used in situations where the baby’s head is not molded. They have more space near the heel of the blade to accompany the baby’s round head. They also have a pin that pulls out of the handle allowing the physician to control how much lateral pressure to apply.
