Porlock Weir on the Bristol Channel (Somerset, UK) Like most ports in West Somerset, the small harbour is tidal but has a small home-based flotilla of yachts and is visited by many more in spring and summer. The port has existed for over 1,000 years. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle reports that in 1052 Harold Godwinson came from Ireland with nine ships and plundered the area and even before that in 86 AD it was visited by Danes. In the 18th and 19th centuries coal from south Wales was the main cargo and in World War II pit props cut in local forests were exported the other way.

During a stroll on the shingle beach of Blue Anchor, Somerset, UK, I stumbled upon this stranded baby lesser spotted catshark. I wrapped it in my jacket and carried it to the sea - which had receded quite far - and watched it slowly swim away. (Nikon Coolpix P510)

On a trip to Price Edward County in Ontario, I happened to drive past the Picton Airport. I believe is was at one time an air force station. Across the road were a pair of buildings that I suspect were part of that establishment, but long since abandoned. I'm not sure of the their purpose, but they might have been barracks for the personnel. Today, they sit apparently unused, boarded-up, but the texture of the cedar shingles on the walls made them both very visually appealing. This image is of the entrance to one of the buildings. I really loved the tired old door, the well trodden doorstep, even the old cyan-coloured paint on the door, which was still in quite good shape where it had been protected by the porch roof.
