Description: Seven gauges measure intensity, duration, certainty, propinquity, fecundity, purity and extent around a dial of pleasure and pain. Can the rightness of an action be measured in units of happiness? The right act is the one that produces the greatest happiness for the greatest number. Bentham even proposed seven dimensions for weighing every pleasure and pain. Source: Jeremy Bentham, Principles of Morals and Legislation, 1789, J. S. Mill, 1861.
