Description: Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants of the genus Gossypium in the mallow family Malvaceae. The fiber is almost pure cellulose. Under natural conditions, the cotton bolls will increase the dispersal of the seeds.
Description: Hattori Hanzō (服部韓蔵) is a master Japanese sword smith. He is very well known for the quality of his katanas. At some point in the past, Bill was Hanzō's student. 28 years prior to the events of Vol. 1, Hattori took a blood oath to never again make "instruments of death." After retirement from smithing, Hattori became a businessman, manning his own sushi store.
Description: Cotton Club, legendary nightspot in the Harlem district of New York City that for years featured prominent Black entertainers who performed for white audiences. The club served as the springboard to fame for Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and many others. Jack Johnson, the first African American heavyweight boxing champion, opened the Club Deluxe, a 400-seat nightclub at the corner of 142nd Street and Lenox Avenue, in 1920. In 1922 the club was taken over by Owen (“Owney”) Madden, a well-known Manhattan underworld figure.
