Description: Trimurti is the triple manifested part of the supreme deity, in addition to the Brahman representations, making itself triple in order to lead the different states of the universe. Trimurti is composed of the three main gods of Hinduism: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, who respectively symbolize creation, conservation and destruction. The concept of Trimurti developed at the time of the so-called Puranic period. Although Vishnu and Shiva attract strong cults and worship, respectively Vishnuism and Shivaism Brahma tends to creep towards an absolute plane, as a creator God. Trimurti is often portrayed as a three-headed figure, owing to her incarnation in Dattatreya.
Description: This image depicts one of the wonderful bas relief carvings on the walls of the Bayon Temple in Angkor Thom. Although time has taken its toll, the statue is essentially intact, as are the wonderful stone-carved ornamentations that surround it. I remember having to wait several minutes to capture this image because of the constant procession of visitors passing by.
Description: From an original engraving The faiths of the World by James Gardner. Published circa 1860 by Fullarton & Co. The Trimurti meaning three forms is personified by Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer or transformer. Please note with regard to scanned antique prints there may be some age related marks or faults from the originals which will show also on any print ordered. This is inevitable with prints of this age & actually lends an authentic look to the prints.
