Description: Griswold Manufacturing was an American manufacturer of cast-iron kitchen products founded in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1865. The company was considered a pioneer in the cookware industry, and for many years maintained a world-wide reputation for high-quality cast-iron cookware. By the 1940s, the company was facing competition from more modern products while struggling with internal labor disputes and declining quality. The family ran the company until 1946, when it was sold to an investment group. A decade later, the brand would be retired and the factory closed down. Today, Griswold pieces are collectors' items.
