Pictish Hats
Description: A design from the 8th century Pictish standing stones in Scotland, the boar was considered the ultimate adversary in the Hunt. Wily and strong, they were a match for anyone pursuing them, and stand as a representative of animal energy. Drawn by the internationally esteemed tattoo artist Pat Fish.
Description: The Picts were the original rulers of what is today Scotland, leaving behind only their mysterious symbols and vibrant artwork carved into stone. They first appear in recorded history in Roman times and fiercely defended their lands from Roman occupation. They fought off numerous incursions by the Scots, and resisted Christianization to retain their unique pagan culture. In the ninth century they finally merged with the Scots. But their symbols carved in stone remain, their meaning all but lost to a time long ago, even today these symbols are a mystery.
Description: This symbol comes from the Picts, a group of people who inhabited areas of what is now Scotland. They are known for their stone carvings, although the meaning behind most of their symbols has now been lost. This symbol is commonly called the "Pictish beast" and is thought to perhaps represent a variety of animals-- both mythological and real-- and perhaps have been of great importance. I have recreated it here in my own style.

Description: The beautiful California Poppy, the state flower Eschscholzia californica, united with a moon crescent of knotwork from the 8th century Rosemarkie Stone, a Pictish standing stone from the Black Isle of Easter Ross in Scotland. Description: There are a few things that Scotland is known for, apart from our awesome accents and good whisky. One of these is the intricate knotwork that was carved into stones by the Picts and Celts. Much of this artwork was couple by depictions of animals, and this was the main inspiration behind this design. With two unicorns (Scotland's national animal), each morphing into knotwork at the bottom, before joining and curling around each other to form a heart and upside down triquetra before ending in a thistle, which is Scotland national flower. This design was very much inspired by my love for Scotland, the culture, and the history.
