Sheboygan Hats
Description: The Sheboygan Indians operated from 1940–1942 and 1946–1953 as members of the Class D Wisconsin State League. The Indians were preceded by the Sheboygan Chairmakers, who played in the Independent Wisconsin State League from 1923–1932 and 1934–1937. Joe Hauser was the manager of the Indians for their duration. Hauser, incidentally, had been a major-league first baseman in the 1920s primarily with the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1924, he hit 27 home runs to finish second in the American League to Babe Ruth. Hauser began his career with the Sheboygan Indians as a player/manager and then a full-time manager.

Description: The Wisconsin State League was a relatively stable post-war Class D minor league baseball circuit. The league formed with six clubs in the summer of 1940 and added two more expansion clubs, Janesville and Oskhosh, in 1941. Like most of the minors, the Wisconsin State League shut down from 1943 through 1945 during the height of the war effort. The league’s attendance and the financial viability of its clubs were already in decline when the National when the when the National League’s Boston Braves moved to Milwaukee in 1953.

Description: The Sheboygan Chairmakers were a minor league baseball team based in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, named after the city's booming furniture manufacturing industry (Sheboygan was known as "Chair City" due to having some of the largest chair manufacturers in the world, including the Crocker Chair Co.).
