Thylacine Hats
Description: The thylacine is now one of the most famous extinct animals, just behind the Dodo. In part it gained this reputation from the fact that there are every now and then supposed sightings of thylacines on Tasmania and also Mainland Australia. A part of me hopes for the reappearence of the thylacine, but another part is very, very skeptical about this. This gain in popularity and the supposed sightings made the thylacine to me a spirit of the wilderness in Tasmania.

Description: Part of a collection of Australian animals by Englishman John Gould, 1804 - 1881. Renown for his studies in Australian animals, particularly in Tasmania where he sailed to from England to study native animals and birds. He was also an accomplished artist, sketching and hand painting what he saw with the assistance of his wife, Elizabeth.
