Alan Turing Hoodies
Description: Father of computer science and artificial intelligence, Alan Turing is also considered a gay martyr: committed suicide in 1954 because he could not cope with the publicity following his conviction for homosexuality and subsequent “corrective” chemical castration in spite of the great service to his country —and the whole world— breaking German ciphers during the war.
Description: A monochrome green portrait of Alan Turing's face is centered within a stylized outline of a human head. To the left, connecting to the head outline, is a grid-like structure with nodes and lines, representing a computational concept. The name 'Alan Turing' is written in cursive below the portrait.
Description: Alan M Turing (1912 – 1954) was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist. He is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. Despite his accomplishments, he was never fully recognized in his home country during his lifetime, due to his homosexuality, which was then a crime in the UK. Turing was prosecuted in 1952 for homosexual acts; the Labouchere Amendment had mandated that "gross indecency" was a criminal offense in the UK. He accepted chemical castration treatment, with DES, as an alternative to prison. He died in 1954, 16 days before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning. #PrideMonth
Description: "The question that launched artificial intelligence, asked in 1950 and answered differently by every generation. Three clean monitors, a dividing wall and dotted lines of conversation, in a timeless tech-philosophy design. The Turing test, Alan Turing's imitation game (1950): an interrogator behind a wall chats with two terminals, A and B. One is human, one is a machine. If you cannot tell the difference, does the machine think? For computer scientists, AI and machine learning engineers, programmers, mathematicians, cognitive scientists and tech history fans. A smart gift for developers, students and STEM graduates.
Description: Before the laptop, before the algorithm, before any of this — there was a man in front of a machine made of gears and punched tape, convinced that thinking could be mechanical. He was right. This illustration puts Alan Turing exactly where he belongs: confident, hands on hips, in front of the machine that changed everything. The cartoon rendering celebrates the work. The Bombe, the binary, the chess problem that became a metaphor for intelligence itself. No apology. Just the father of modern computing, standing in front of his life's work. The machine runs. The rest is history.
