The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system, located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms.

Love is love is love!

What an amazing sight this was. The few of us that were on Mon Repos beach late in the afternoon were treated to the sight of four hatchlings, stragglers from a nest that hatched the night befoe, as they made their first run to the sea. This poor girl in particular got tossed around by the waves, but eventually she made it out to the open sea. Hopefully she'll be returning back to the same beach in 30 years time to lay her own batch of hatchlings!

Foam lapping on the sand & coral shores of Nudey Beach. This beach, like the rest of Fitzroy Island, was stunning, but I don't think it's a place many people would like to go nude in -- after all, that would require walking barefoot on the very pointy coral that had washed up on the beach!

Lover's Cove was one of my favourite spots on Daydream Island, one of the many resort islands in the Whitsundays. By day, we could walk down the coral beach straight into an ocean teeming with reef life; by evening, we could watch gorgeous sunsets like this one over the mainland; and by night we could sit and listen to the lapping of the waves under a dusting of fairy lights and stars.

We couldn't have asked for a better day at Whitehaven Beach. The beach really lived up to its reputation--even in July it was a nice temperature to swim in, and it was even better just to lie on the beach and take in the scene!

The view from Passage Peak on Hamilton Island is amazing. It's only a 2.6km walk to this spot -- the highest peak on the island -- and you get views stretching across the Whitsundays and all the way back to the mainland. This view is from just below the peak itself looking back on Catseye Beach and some of the main resorts on the island. Look at that reef!

I captured this shot just after sunset on the south side of Daydream Island. It was quite unexpected to get this view as we'd already watched the sun set from Lover's Cove on the other side of the island and were just on our way to dinner when we noticed these reflections!

This was one of the absolute highlights of my travels around Australia with my family. As we were swimming back to the beach at Michaelmas Cay, we crossed paths with this green turtle and swam with him for about 10 minutes! He didn't seem bothered at all and just kept swimming along.
