The River Kennet, here part of the Kennet and Avon Canal, flowing eastwards through the centre of Newbury in Berkshire on its way to join the Thames at Reading. Here it has just passed through the Town Lock and is flowing under the Town, or Water Bridge. Newbury, the administrative centre of West Berkshire, was, in medieval times, famous as a centre for making woollen cloth. The canal was opened between Reading and Bristol in 1810, providing a smooth route between the Bristol Channel and London.

This was captured on another jump in the car trip down to London to see what the skies gave me. All in accordance with permissions in place with the respective parties concerned.

The Ogwen river meanders underneath the Pont (bridge in Welsh) Pen Y Benglog from Llyn (lake in Welsh) Ogwen. In wintertime when the rains are high it can be seen as prominent in a wide angle vista, but now that spring is here and the rains have eased off, its flow is less pronounced. The bouldery outcrops create texture and depth along with the tall fine coniferous trees which obscure much of the light, casting shadows and shards of light in places. Using modern day glass - a wide angle Pentax DA HD 15mm f/4 on a Pentax K3 DSLR camera... a more traditional set up... I composed wide and decided to crop in after. This bridge leads to a Bhuddist temple which has little to recommend it especially as you're hassled for a 'donation' several times. Southern most major town in Sri Lanka and the terminus of the coastal rail line has also been under the Portuguese and Dutch rule. The star shaped fort at Matara is an unusual and a unique structure. There are several beautiful and less crowded beaches along the coast between Galle and Matara and the closest to the town is at Polhena.
