The underwater panther is a mythological being that is present in many Native American legends. Also known by names such as the Mishipeshu or Wampus Cat, this fearsome creature was reputed to live underneath lakes and waterways. This design was inspired by the stories and legends of the Moundville people in my local area. Now you can own your very own underwater panther on a shirt, as a sticker, or carry it around with you on a travel mug.

This is part of my ongoing series about animals that went extinct after 1500. The Thylacine may be the most prominent example of a supposed extinct animal. Despite that the last known individual died in 1936 in a Zoo in Hobart/Tasmania, there have been sightings of this marsupial on Tasmania and even Australia where it is thought to be extinct for 3,000 years.

Once a species is gone, it's gone. The Carolina Parakeet once darkened the skies of the east coast of the US, but it was driven to extinction by hunting because it was considered a nuisance to crops. Remember this gorgeous little parrot with a depressing t-shirt.
