Emerging from a translucent cocoon is a humanoid butterfly. One thin arm and two slim and graceful legs fold out of the cocoon. Two more legs and both wings are still folded inside the cocoon. But one wing has begun to emerge. The antennae are pointed forward. Perched above the figure’s head is a golden crown with seven points.

All hail the Queen.

Newly emerged Monarch Butterfly from Chrysalis in the garden. A member of the Lepidoptera family Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus). It remained 2 hours for the wings to fully dry before flying off. Monarch butterflies are an iconic species, easily recognized by their large and vibrant orange wings. The brilliantly-coloured Monarch is a summer breeder in many areas of southern Canada, and most Canadian-born adults head to the highlands of central Mexico to overwinter. It takes four to five generations of Monarchs to make it to Canada during the spring migration. I
