Marvin Gaye (born Marvin Pentz Gay Jr.; April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984) was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He helped to shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s, first as an in-house session player and later as a solo artist with a string of hits, earning him the nicknames "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul".

In 1970, one of the more bizarre chapters in Italian American history began when an infamous Italian American from Brooklyn, NY created the Italian American Civil Rights League! Formed to fight discriminatory representations of Italians in American media and news, the league exploded onto the scene with star-studded and sold out benefit concerts in Madison Square Garden, and, on June 29, 1970, they rallied nearly 100,000 Italian Americans in Manhattan’s Columbus Circle for the first ever “Italian American Unity Day”. Yet, just a year later, the second Unity Day ended in violence and bloodshed, and the IACRL quickly faded into the pages of history. But, for Italian Americans living throughout the east coast in the years between 1970-1971

The Dead Rabbits were a notorious Irish-American gang that roamed the streets of old New York in a notorious slum known as the Five Points. It was a time when only the tough could survive. Personal grievances, business competition, and even political differences were often settled with fists. The Dead Rabbits’ nemesis would be a Nativist gang known as the Bowery Boys. Violence was golden as America struggled to define itself, but the struggle helped shape the character of the USA, and came to define the hard-working, hard-fighting, hard-drinking American immigrant.
