The Armor Branch of the United States Army is an active combat arms branch. It was created provisionally in 1940 as Armored Force under Chief of the Armored Force, Brigadier General Adna R. Chaffee, Jr. and took control of all tank units in infantry and cavalry units.

At the outbreak of the Korean War, a unique Ranger unit was formed. Led by Second Lieutenant Ralph Puckett, the Eighth Army Ranger Company was created in August 1950. It served as the role model for the rest of the soon to be formed Ranger units. Companies D, E, and F Companies served in Vietnam, from 1967 to 1969, with the 4th Infantry Division. These companies performed long range reconnaissance missions and were later redesignated as ranger companies of the 75th Ranger Infantry Regiment (Airborne).

The warship took part in Operation Allied Force, firing Tomahawk cruise missiles at Serbian targets in 1999. She also assisted a cruise ship, Seabourn Spirit, after an abortive attack by pirates off the coast of Somalia in 2005. On 1 March 2006, she rescued the crew of an Iranian ship, whose engine and rudder were broken down since 18 February. The Iranian crew were returned to Iran. She was involved in the Action of 18 March 2006 with suspected pirates, along with the USS Cape St. George. The two U.S. warships exchanged fire with the suspected pirates about 25 nautical miles (46 km) off the coast of Somalia. Initial reports indicated that one suspected pirate was killed and five others wounded.

The 104th Field Artillery Regiment was organized as Battery K, 1st Regiment of Artillery I the New York National Guard on 3 April 1867. It would experience numerous redesignations and reorganizations in the decades leading up to it being mustered into Federal service in 1916 for Mexican Border service as the 1st Field Artillery Regiment. Drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917, it was reorganized and redesignated on 1 October 1917 as the 104th Field Artillery and assigned to the 27th Division. It served in three World War I campaigns before returning stateside and being demobilized in April 1919. It was redesignated the 104th Field Artillery in 1972

The 23d CBRN Battalion is a Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives defense battalion of the United States Army, part of the 2ID Sustainment Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Humphreys, Korea. It traces its lineage back to the 1944 formation of the 23rd Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion in England during World War II. The 23rd was inactivated after the end of the war and reactivated in 1949 as the 4th Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion, serving in the Korean War before being inactivated in Germany at the end of the 1950s. The 23rd Chemical Battalion was reactivated in Korea in 1988.

In August it became the 12th Aviation Group, which then doubled in size and was used to form the 1st Aviation Brigade in March 1966. The 1st Aviation Brigade, responsible for 40% of the Army’s helicopter assets and 100% of its fixed wing assets; performed brilliantly throughout the war and was instrumental in inventing and perfecting the art of helicopter warfare.
