Zbigniew Herbert was one of the essential Polish poets of the twentieth century and one of the main artists who opposed communism in Poland. Some of his famous works are Mr. Cogito, Epilogue to a Storm, Elegy for the Departure, Report from the Besieged City and Other Poems, etc.

The nineteenth century was dominated by males, but there were still some woman who rose high with their intellectual and artistic achievements. Marceline Desbordes-Valmore was one of them. She was a poet, actress and an opera singer. Her poetry was deeply emotional and melancholic, Marceline was not afraid to venture into the dark side. She earned respect of the best male poets of her time.
