I was too young to remember pubs, having left the city before adulthood. I rediscovered them in later years, with the city’s cobbled High Street being especially wonderful. Filled with dark, cosy atmosphere, candlelight and rafters, the lingering smell of stale ale soaked into wooden floors. A place of magical romance and escape. I often imagine Victorian Hull here, swirling mist and the ghostly sound of foghorns, rattling carriages and the clopping of hooves. This work depicts a favourite historical pub on the High Street and makes a perfect gift and a great addition to any collection.

A lovely white stuccoed shop, a barber’s, sits quietly in the light of dawn, waiting for customers. The street is deserted, the windows hinting only at life within. I liked the patchwork of colours, squares of white, of milky coffee, lines of pink and blue. The sky is warm, suggesting a hot day to come, a day full of hope and joy. This work would make a wonderful gift and a great addition to any collection.

hull s pubs fascinate me, beacons of warmth and places of cheer, set against cold winds and grey skies i spotted this pub a while ago, when it was still yellow, on a narrow street near the hull river the area is industrial, mysterious in the fog, hull noir, walls topped with wire and shiny cobbles, red bricks, and seagulls i wanted to capture it the work is a perfect gift, a wonderful souvenir of hull
