Description: On July 22, 1968, the cathedral was damaged by a fire that destroyed many of the structure's features and contents, including the rose window, vestments, 1860 bells, and parish records. Only the facade and the walls of the old church remained. In 1972, a new, smaller cathedral was built incorporating the back wall, which was directly behind where I stood to take this photograph. Description: We had been staying in Buxton, Derbyshire, primarily to spend some time in the Peak District National Park. However, we also knew of Buxton's history as a spa town, the Midland's answer to Bath, and couldn't help but notice some of the grand building around the town. Buxton was a destination town for those who wanted to take in the spa waters, but when not bathing, a grand opera house would be a fine addition, nay a cultural highlight, of such a visit. The opera house, according to Wikipedia, was built in 1903. What I love about the image, is the dynamic viewpoint I was able to obtain, where a wide angle let me capture the main elements of the building's facade. Anyway, I do hope you enjoy the image.
